What we collect, and what we don't
Active Eats is a food diary. It works because you tell it what you ate, so the honest summary is: we keep your diary, we don't keep your photos, and we don't sell any of it.

What we store
Your account
Signing in uses an email address or phone number, which our authentication provider holds. Our own database stores only an account identifier and, if you set one, a username. We don't keep a copy of your email address or phone number.
What you log
Foods, diary entries, nutrition goals and meal plans, with their dates and times. This is the diary itself — it stays until you delete it.
What we don't store
Photos and voice notes
A photo of a meal, or a spoken description, is sent to our server, passed to an AI model to work out what the food is, and discarded. We never write either to disk or to the database. What persists on our side is the result — "chicken salad, 420 calories" — not the picture or the recording.
One caveat worth stating plainly: the provider doing that analysis may hold the photo or recording for a short period — up to 30 days — to detect misuse of its service, after which it deletes them. They are not used to train anyone's models. So "we don't keep it" is true of us immediately, and true everywhere within a month.
Everything else
No advertising identifiers, no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs, no location, no contacts, no health or fitness data from your phone. Camera and microphone access are used only while you are logging a meal, and only to capture what you point them at.
Who else touches it
Three service providers, each doing one job and nothing else:
- Authentication — handles sign-in and holds the email address or phone number you sign in with.
- AI analysis — receives meal photos and voice recordings, identifies the food, and returns a result. We use it under terms that prevent your content being used to train the provider's models.
- Hosting — runs the server and the database where your diary lives.
Each is a reputable provider bound by a contract to process data only on our instructions. We name them by role rather than brand because the specific vendors change; if you want to know who they are today, email hello@activeeats.app and we'll tell you.
Nutrition figures are matched against USDA FoodData Central, a public dataset we import ourselves. Nothing about you is sent to the USDA.
We don't sell your data, and we don't share it with anyone beyond the three above.
Deleting your data
In the app: Settings → Delete account. It names what is about to go, asks you to confirm, and then does it immediately — your account, your whole diary, your targets, saved foods and plans. There is no restore window and we keep no copy.
If you no longer have the app installed, thedeletion page explains how to ask us by email, and we'll do it within 30 days.
There is nothing else of yours to retrieve either way — we hold no photos or recordings to begin with, and any copy the analysis provider held for abuse detection ages out on its own.
Children
Active Eats isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes, and getting in touch
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, we'll update the date at the top and say so in the app before it takes effect. Questions go to hello@activeeats.app.
