The deal, and the limits

Active Eats estimates what's in your food so you don't have to look it up. Estimates are the product, and they are not advice about your health. Using the app means accepting both.

The numbers are estimates

When you photograph a meal, describe it out loud, or type a sentence, an AI model identifies the food and estimates its calories and macros. It is guessing from a picture or a phrase. It cannot weigh your portion, see the oil in the pan, or know the recipe.

Figures matched against USDA FoodData Central are reference values for a typical example of that food, not a measurement of yours. Barcode matches reflect what the manufacturer published.

Treat every number as an approximation. If a figure matters — for a medical reason, a competition, anything with consequences — verify it against the label or a scale.

Not medical or nutritional advice

Active Eats is a diary. It records what you tell it and adds it up. It does not diagnose, treat, or prevent anything, it is not a medical device, and nothing in it is advice from a doctor or a dietitian.

You choose your own targets. The app does not calculate what you should eat, and meal plans are built from meals you logged yourself — they are your past eating reflected back, not a recommendation.

Talk to a qualified professional before changing how you eat, especially if you are pregnant, managing a condition such as diabetes or kidney disease, recovering from an eating disorder, or under 18. Don't delay or disregard their advice because of something you read here.

Your account

Keep your sign-in method secure — anyone who can receive your codes can reach your diary. One account per person, and you must be 13 or older to have one.

Don't use the app to break the law, attack the service, or get at other people's data. We can suspend an account that does.

Your diary is yours. We claim no ownership of what you log, and we don't sell it — see the privacy policy for how it's handled.

What we don't promise

The service is provided as it is. We don't warrant that it will be available without interruption, free of errors, or accurate in any particular case — and the estimates section above should make clear that accuracy in a particular case is exactly what we cannot promise.

To the fullest extent the law allows, Active Eats is not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of it, including any decision about diet, exercise or health you make on the basis of a figure it showed you. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid us, which is currently nothing.

Some jurisdictions don't allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to you only as far as the law permits, and nothing here affects rights you have that cannot be waived.

Changes, ending, and getting in touch

You can stop using Active Eats whenever you like and ask us to delete your account — the privacy policy says how. We may suspend accounts that breach these terms, and we may change the service or these terms; a material change will be flagged in the app before it takes effect, with the date above updated.
